Wil Anderson expertly confronts politics, humanity and the Bogan life with his dripping and affecting satire at this year’s Fringe Festival.

Fire At Wil, the fresh offering from one of the country’s most intelligent comedians and host of ABC’s Gruen, Wil Anderson, is a controversial and candid perspective on life in Australia.

As one of the Adelaide Fringe’s biggest names and honorary resident for the past 18 years, Wil is as fiery and inventive as ever. For 60 minutes in The Vagabond, an homage to modern Australiana weaves from our indigenous origins to burning toast in the Qantas Lounge.

In a show that leads from Tony Abbott and George Clooney to anti-vaxxers and ‘getting blind drunk’ on the first Australia Day, Wil’s vibrant monologue teases constant uproars from the crowd. Obvious strengths lie in the references tailored just for South Australia, with the Clipsal’s relation to terrorism and our peak ‘Mad March’ lovingly ridiculed. From nervous giggles to impulsive outbursts, Wil’s intelligence and ability to cut to society’s core with one melodramatic swoop owns the show.

In a hilarious and informed take on the serious issues within our country, the always honest and slightly manic comedian poignantly reinforces the importance of working together in an evolving nation.

Smart, sharp and seamless. It takes an especially genius artist to make an audience laugh at themselves with tears in their eyes, and his name is Wil Anderson.
