Sirens-1-630x1024Families and the young at heart are in for a treat this long weekend with the best street theatre performers in the world taking over Adelaide for four days and nights of high-octane entertainment from Friday, March 6, until Monday, March 9.

Super skilled, super funny and super silly street theatre performers from across Australia and around the world will descend on outdoor performances spaces in Rundle Mall, Rundle St and Waymouth St for the Fringe Street Theatre Festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

Produced by the Adelaide Fringe, the program features highly-acclaimed international performers including street circus sensations Les Dudes from Canada and Switzerland, Acrobuffos from the USA with their hysterical water balloon gladiator show, the USA’s Billy Kidd from the Discovery Channel’s Magic of Science and the hilarious 80s music obsessed Eddy Eighty from Spain.

Australian performers include hilarious juggling and body bending duo Ruby Rubberlegs and Dandyman, contortionist and acrobat Kiki Bittovabtisch and Fringe-favourite Mr Spin, renowned for his amazing juggling atop an eight foot zigzag unicycle.

Adelaide Fringe Director Greg Clarke said “the calibre of this year’s Street Theatre Festival program is exceptional and audiences are sure to be entertained and amazed”.

“As always the performances are not ticketed, but if you like what you see give generously because this is what they do for a living,” Mr Clarke said.

A special feature of this year’s Fringe Street Theatre Festival will be the world premiere of The Sirens, a magnificent street ballet to be performed in the Rundle St and East Tce intersection on Saturday and Sunday nights at 9pm and 10pm.

Adelaide Fringe has created six spectacular Sirens, which in Greek mythology were dangerous yet beautiful creatures that lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices. More than 4m tall, these giant illuminated divas will take your breath away as they dance in the street in their dazzling dresses of a thousand sparkling lights.

Families also have an abundance of ticketed Fringe children’s shows to choose from with 33 events also on offer over the long weekend.

The Fringe Street Theatre Festival would not be possible without the support of BankSA, Adelaide City Council and the Rundle Mall Management Authority.
