Collision_Course1To coincide with the global premiere of Multiverse  and school holidays, Australian Dance Theatre under the directorship of Garry Stewart has produce the Moving Image  exhibition – a stunning FREE interactive work staged at the Artspace Gallery, Adelaide Festival Centre open now until the 24th  of August 2014.

The audio-visual installations offer audiences the opportunity to experience the innovation of Australian Dance Theatre across dance, visual arts and screen focusing on two works, Proximity and Collision Course.

These works are developed in partnership with the dancers of Australian Dance Theatre and national and international collaborators.

The first installation, Collision Course , will present a series of bodies colliding in mid-air, captured in extreme slow motion at 1500 frames per second. What results is a stunning series of almost still images, where every movement and muscle is brought into sharp focus by the slow motion camera. The project includes a cast of over 100 sportspeople and dancers trained in various physical disciplines – martial artists, rugby players, gymnasts, athletes, wrestlers, capoeira dancers, breakdancers, boxers, jive dancers, contemporary dancers to name a few. Collision Course  was conceived, choreographed and co-directed by Garry Stewart and produced and codirected by Carmelo Musca.

The second of Stewart’s installations, Proximity,  will be exhibited alongside Collision Course  and provide an opportunity for the general public to engage and interact with the installation.

Proximity  premiered at the Adelaide Festival in 2012, and this special interactive version has been developed by Paris-based video engineer Thomas Pachoud who created the stunning interactive computer animations for the live dance work. The gallery version of Proximity  promises to be not only insightful, but great fun for all ages.

Proximity  has enjoyed great success in Europe, touring in 2013 and 2014 and was presented to Melbourne audiences at the Arts Centre in August 2013, receiving a 5-star review in The Age.

The work has considerably evolved from the Adelaide premiere in 2012 and Australian Dance Theatre is delighted to present a return season of Proximity , in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre at the Dunstan Playhouse this November to kick off the 50th  anniversary celebrations in 2015.

As a companion piece to Multiverse, Moving Image  promises to be an awe inspiring experience for viewers and is a must-visit for the school holidays.

The exhibition is open now, every Wednesday to Sunday from 11am-4pm until Saturday, 24th  of August 2014. Entry is free.
