Forgotten Objects Revived With Fresh Blooms From Local Florists

A unique fusion of floristry and upcycled art is coming to Bowden as part of a SALA exhibition, and it’s going to be spectacular.

Across August the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival offers audiences more than 600 unique perspectives across every medium you can imagine. A bunch of local florists will gather in Bowden to transform the way we relate to flowers at Found Object Floristry’s Beg, Borrow or Steal exhibition at Tenth & Gibson on the 20th & 21st of August.

The 7 florists involved will beg, borrow or steal discarded and forgotten objects to set the stage for this unique fusion of floristry and upcycled art. This exhibition is a dream of local florist Adrian Mitton, who wants to provide a platform for florists to produce something more than just another arrangement: a space where florists can let their imaginations grow wild without commercial obligation, flowers with a quirky ‘trash or treasure’ twist.

“This is a competitive industry focused on creating arrangements that will sell,” says Mitton.

“Our exhibition brings together a community of florists who want to innovate, to create unique, beautiful artworks and transcend our formulaic everyday business.”

The opening night soiree has been designed to be a feast for the eyes, ears, nose and tastebuds. Upon arrival at Tenth & Gibson, guests will be gifted a floral infused cocktail and enjoy canapés provided by the award winning team from the “Rogue & Rascal”. Live jazz from local performers will lift the atmosphere swinging the night into full bloom. So guests can enjoy this floral cocktail party responsibly, the opening night ticket even includes a discount off your Uber ride home.

“We’re so excited by the concept, we’re exploring the floral palettes of our favourite spirits to build a menu that will complement the experience and tantalise the tastebuds of our guests,” says Elouise Dukalskis of the Rogue & Rascal.

“This exhibition is definitely best described as an experience for all of the senses and the opening night is not to be missed.”

For those who prefer a more serene atmosphere to appreciate art, the exhibition will also be open on Sunday 21st, with tea, coffee and cake for sale as guests amble through the blossoms.
