FIRST LOOK: Emma Hack’s New CBD Art & Wine Bar

Renowned body paint artist Emma Hack will open a new exhibit in collaboration with RENEW Adelaide.

No doubt you’ve heard a few whispers around town, or read our previous story, about Emma Hack’s new ARTBAR. If you haven’t, it’s a new gallery and wine bar hybrid opening in Adelaide’s CBD super soon, and it looks incredible.

We love any opportunity to sip a glass of wine, enjoy the beautiful sunshine and chat with mates. This soon-to-be open bar located conveniently on Sturt Street in the city gives us all the right reasons to do just that, with the added bonus of soaking in some beautiful art while we are at it.

For the opening, Adelaide artists Brent Leideritz and Angelique Joy have teamed up with Atkins Photolab and Phototex paper supplied by Starteaton to create wallpaper that encompasses you and transports you ‘into the woods’ right in the middle of the bar. But, where will these installations be on display, you ask? IN THE TOILETS.

For most, a bathroom is the place we each perform our most private rituals; exposure and vulnerability were the two dominant themes that kept popping up for Angelique and Brent when discussing the works direction. Red Riding Hood and Her Wolves speaks of watching and being watched; between the characters, but also the characters interacting with visitors to the bathroom. It plays on the idea of exposure and hiding; the enclosed space of the bathroom filled with an open forest.

With installations every six months by some brilliant Adelaide artists, there’ll always be something new to look at every time you visit.

See all our photos below, or check it out for yourself when the installation opens as a part of Renew Adelaide on Saturday 18 November.

The Emma Hack Gallery & Art Bar launches this Thursday 16 November, and is located in the Hindmarsh Ergo Apartments on Sturt St in the city.

Opening Times:
Thursday 16 November 12-5pm
Friday 17 November 12-6pm
Saturday 18 November 11-6pm
Sunday 19 November 12-7pm

After which they’ll be open from 12-7pm every Thursday to Sunday
