Final Round of SALA 2016 Awards Announced

Four more South Australian visual artists have been recognised for photography, moving image and sculpture, concluding the $35,000 awards.

The final four SALA awards were given out this week for achievements in photography, moving image and sculpture, voted on by a panel of expert judges and announced at a special event at the Adelaide Town Hall.

Photographic artist Nathan Stolz picked up his second award for SALA 2016 winning the Atkins Photographic Award, comprising an edition of three A1 giclee archival fine art prints, while multimedia artist Ray Harris took home the $5000 Unitcare Services Moving Image Award for moving image work.

Emerging artist Jess Taylor and 21-year-old sculptor Joel Zimmermann, of Sedan were named joint winners of the Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures Award for young artists aged 15 to 26 years, with each winner taking home $1000.

The announcement follows round one of the $35,000 SALA Awards which were announced at the launch of the festival’s program on July 8, and included Julia Robinson(The Advertiser Contemporary Art Prize), Nathan Stolz (Centre for Creative Photography Latent Image Award), Mary Ann Santin (OZ Minerals Copper Sculpture Award),Emmaline Zanelli (Adelaide Review Young Artist Award for artists 18-30 years), Scott McCarten (Adelaide Review Outsider Art Award), Chris De Rosa (Country Arts SA Breaking Ground Award for regional artists supported by ABC Local Radio and Adelaide Festival Centre), Andrea Malone (The Don Dunstan Foundation Award), Tina Jade Panagaris (City Rural Emerging Artist Award), Sheila Whittam (The City Of Unley Active Ageing Award) and Tobias Staheli (Centennial Park Environment Award).

The SALA Festival ran 1-31 August 2016, featuring 630 exhibitions and events across Adelaide and regions with nearly 5,000 participating artists with an attendance of over 600,000.
