Film Review: Captain America: Civil War

After a mission results in collateral damage, political interference divides The Avengers team and pits friend against friend in an epic battle of superheroes.

As a child we all had our favourite superhero and we would each argue that our hero is the best. What would happen if our superheroes suddenly turned against each other? If Captain America and Iron Man went head to head, who would win? Captain America: Civil War finally provides fans with some answers to these questions.

The third installment of the Captain America franchise sees friend pitted against friend when political interference divides The Avengers team. After a mission results in collateral damage, The Avengers have each been asked to sign the Sokovia Accord, which will deem The Avengers no longer a private organisation and place them under government control. Tony Stark lets his personal guilt take over and agrees to sign, while Steve Rogers thinks the team is giving up their freedom to actually help people and he chooses instead to retire.

Captain America and Iron Man both end up recruiting a team of heroes to fight on their side and what ensues is an epic battle as allies turn against each other, both believing they are fighting for good. Favourite heroes entwined in the showdown include Ant Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, War Machine, Scarlet Witch and more. The added introduction of a very young Spider Man has been long awaited by Marvel fans and absolutely does not disappoint.

The stunts and special effects are nothing short of spectacular and the action is fast, colourful and adrenalin-filled. It’s exactly what the fans are after!

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have produced an entertaining and slick movie which, despite its more complex moral plot, still manages to maintain the humour we have come to expect from The Avengers.

With a stellar cast including Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jnr, Paul Rudd, Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen, if you are a fan of Marvel or action films then this is one not to be missed.

In a fight of good vs good, whose side are you on?
