Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows have joined forces to unite in the lead up to this Sunday’s Showdown 39 in memory of Phil Walsh.

On a day when Walsh’s legacy to football will be celebrated, Port Adelaide’s usual home-game activities will incorporate their cross-town rivals.

Port Adelaide has issued an invite to all Crows supporters to join them on their March from the Mall which departs Rundle Mall at 1.30pm.

On ground, both teams will enter as one and meet in the Southern goal square before running through a joint banner. Each club’s theme songs will then be played as the teams complete their final warm-ups.

Just prior to the bounce, a special version of Never Tear Us Apart will be played on the big screens to honour Walsh’s time at both clubs.

At the conclusion of the game the winning club’s theme song won’t be played. Instead, both teams will gather for the presentation of the Showdown Trophy and Medal after which a minute’s applause will take place as a final mark of respect to Walsh.

Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas is looking forward to fans and players from both clubs putting aside their rivalry to celebrate the life of Walsh in the lead up to Sunday’s Showdown.

“The amount of support that both clubs have received from each other over the last couple of weeks has been extraordinary and it’s great to able to continue that theme into Sunday’s Showdown,” Mr Thomas said.

“From a supporter perspective, Port Adelaide is encouraging Crows fans to join our people on our traditional March from the Mall.

“And then for both teams to run through a joint banner is extremely significant and something which we may never see again.

“There’ll be some very special moments across the day including Never Tear Us Apart and the minute’s applause to conclude the afternoon.

“Rest assured though that in between these tributes both sides will be smashing into each other hell-bent on victory as only Walshy would have wanted and expected.”

If the attendance is over 50,000 on Sunday, Port Adelaide, in conjunction with Membership Partner RAA, has decided to donate the $10,000 giveaway to game-day charity partner Childhood Cancer Association.
