Farms, Family And Fish, Get Amongst Friday’s Tasting Australia Action

It just gets better and better (and more delicious)…

The journey through South Australia’s culinary identity continues as Tasting Australia presented by Thomas Foods brings us a jam packed Friday!

Over in the Clare Valley there is a farm tour hosted by TV’s Paul West (River Cottage Australia) at Savannah Farm. Along with Savannah lamb producers Michele and Phil Lally, Paul will discuss sustainable farming practices and the dynamic between real, organic food as it relates to us in communities at this Tasting Australia presented by Thomas Foods event.

“Tasting Australia is proud to attract special guests to South Australia who can share ideas, wisdom and experiences with our local industry and the public through the series of events, In The Company Of,” Tasting Australia creative director Simon Bryant said.

“These lunches, dinners, tours and masterclasses are an opportunity for us all to stretch ourselves and take on a deeper understanding of how our food is produced, where it comes from and how we can sustain industry and the environment in the future.

Loaves and Fishes, an event at Harts Mill in Port Adelaide, will showcase the work and ideas of international bakers Josey Baker and Jeffrey Hamelman alongside the state’s leading artisan bakers and fishermen. In a different exploration of primary industry, Josey and Jeffrey will join a panel to discuss environmental, social and economic sustainability among the commercial cereal and fishing industries. The Timbers will provide entertainment and a family-style feast of bread and fish will nourish guests.

“To have these rockstar bakers in Adelaide from the United States is a real coup and their philosophy about bread and cereals is very insightful.”

Two of South Australia’s food icons – Cheong Liew and Maggie Beer – and rising star Jessie Spiby will host tours of their favourite foodie places in Adelaide and beyond. Guests will join them on an intimate tour, A Few Of My Favourite Things, unearthing the hidden secrets and standout dishes of South Australia’s restaurants, bars and cafes.

Town Square will be abuzz with many of Tasting Australia’s most popular special guests while debate about origin, method, breed and tradition will take place on the main stage with input from South Australia’s leading producers: Kris Lloyd (Woodside Cheese Wrights), Scott de Bruin (Mayura Station Wagyu), Jon Lark (KI Spirits) and Kate Laurie (Deviation Road). Artisan’s Hour and the South Australian Tasting Gallery presented by PIRSA continues to welcome in the weekend for Adelaide foodies. The South Australian Tasting Gallery allows guests to participate in an interactive session, introducing their palate to a number of sweet and sour, salty, or savoury flavours.
