Glenelg’s own outdoor cinema by the beach continues until 12 April with a different film each night – food, drinks, beanbags and more! We reviewed the experience!

I would describe myself as outdoorsy. Not because I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, riding a bike, or any other sport-like, nature-oriented activity, but because I like to drink wine and eat meals on my veranda.

Fortunately for me Ben and Jerry’s Openair Cinema is the sort of outdoor experience where I can do BOTH of those things, in the comfort of a beanbag AND with the added bonus of a blockbuster on the big screen.

I always like to give reviews that are as honest as possible so I’m going to come right out and say it: I can pretend that this was a cinema review but really, I was in it for the ice cream last night.

As always, my main men Ben and Jerry did not let me down. If you’re one of these doubters that hasn’t tried Ben and Jerry’s ice cream because you ‘don’t know what all the fuss is about’, let me put it this way: this is the ice cream that all other ice creams wish to be.

If you feel so inclined to not just consume dessert for dinner there are also delicious rustic Rocketboy pizzas available in flavours like Pesto Chicken and Chorizo & Prawn.

But it’s not ALL about the food. There’s also plenty to drink too! With refreshing beverages from 4 Pines, Rekorderlig, Giesen Wines, Aperol, Mister Mixer and Emma & Tom’s. Giesen even do free samples!

Now where was I? Oh yes! I was at an outdoor cinema. The Brian Nadilo Reserve setting is beautiful. You’re nestled in your comfy deckchair (or beanbag if you so choose) on the lawns, with the beach to your left and the sun slowly setting. If you’re looking for a unique spot for date night, this is it.

If you’re feeling a little more Glam you can also choose to sit in ‘Polo Class’ – an initiative of Volkswagen to celebrate their new Polo Class Volkswagen. Entrance to the stylish Polo Class is only a touch extra and in return you get to watch your film in bean lounger seating with a blanket & cushion for extra comfort, a delicious Ben & Jerry’s shorty, a soft drink of choice and $2 of every ticket sold goes to WWF-Australia – comfort with a conscience! With only 30 seats available to each session we recommend booking ahead for this one.

The Ben and Jerry’s Openair Cinema is a beautiful night out for friends, families and lovers. No canoodling under the covers though, they specify that in the rules! They also mention no beanbag fights (party poopers!). Just remember the evenings get chilly, so take a jacket!

There are a diverse range of films on show at the cinema, from new to old, with a different one shown each night. Visit the Openair website for a full program.

For the music lovers there are also live acoustic performances on selected days. This program is also available on the above link. Oh and for the food fiends like myself, there’s FREE ice cream on Sundays. Wahoo!
