Elsey returns home

Young Adelaide United FC defender Jordan Elsey has returned to Adelaide after a short stint in Hong Kong.

Elsey was set to sign a loan deal with Kitchee FC in the Hong Kong Super League for the remainder of the season, however the recent arrival of an experienced Korean defender on trial delayed the Hong Kong club’s decision to sign the Reds defender.

This has allowed Adelaide United Coach Josep Gombau the opportunity to recall Elsey to rejoin the Reds after a recent spate of suspensions, injuries and players on national team duty has depleted the squad numbers at Gombau’s disposal this week.

With Australian Under 22 Coach Aurelio Vidmar calling up Reds trio Jake Barker-Daish, Ryan Kitto and John Hall, coupled with the suspension of defender Osama Malik and unavailability of Cassio, Cirio and Djite due to injury, Gombau says Elsey’s return would help the depth of the squad over the coming weeks.

“Jordan is a very talented young player and Kitchee had the option of an experienced Korean defender which delayed them signing Jordan,” Gombau said.

“It was bad luck for him but in the end it is also good for us now as we need to add some depth to cover the players we have unavailable at the moment.”

Elsey touched down back in Adelaide yesterday and will resume training with the Reds this morning.
