“These boys gave their lives and some came home badly injured, and for some families life would never be the same. We should always remember, we should never forget, and we should teach the children to remember.” Vera Lynn.

For the Fallen at 1.10pm Friday 25 April recalls the dark days of two world wars and the music which defined the emotions of the times.

Cheryl Pickering, soprano, together with the highly acclaimed Graduate Singers, conducted by Karl Geiger, accompanist Andrew Georg and Hayden King, trumpet present a sweeping program of classical commemorative music of WW1 as well as the optimistic popular songs of WW11.

The Last Post will be performed by Hayden King, Trumpet accompanied by the traditional Ode of Remembrance.

Conductor Karl Geiger explains: “Both the Elgar and Daley For the Fallen are settings of the Lawrence Binyon poem For the Fallen which was written in 1914.

“Soprano Cheryl Pickering will join the choir as soloist for the Elgar and perform songs made famous by The Forces Sweetheart of WW11, Dame Vera Lynn, including A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.”
