Despicable Me 2: Interview with Miranda Cosgrove

Despicable Me 2

Miranda Cosgrove may just be one of the hardest working 20 year olds in the world. And the highest earning. It’s no surprise that her stock is rising since reprising her role as the stern but lovable Margo in Despicable Me 2.

Alongside comedy heavyweights Steve Carrell and Kristen Wiig, surely young Miranda felt like she had big shoes to fill?

“I loved playing the role of Margo so doing it again was a no brainer. Having Steve and Kristen to play off makes it all the more fun,” says Cosgrove.

Miranda Cosgrove“When you hear them, and I mean we all know they’re funny and have great comedic timing, but as voice actors they’re still hilarious, it makes me want to do better. Be funnier!”

Wrapping up her popular Nickelodeon series iCarly as well as studying a film degree and releasing an album, it’s a wonder Miranda Cosgrove thinks she has time for anything, let alone trying to measure up to Steve Carrell and Kristen Wiig, but she pulls it off with aplomb.

Her character Margo, the voice of reason amongst Gru’s young girls, falls in love and puts Steve Carrell’s character through every father of adolescent children’s worst nightmare.

“I love acting, I love voice acting, I love singing and I want to continue with my studies. The key is to not try and do everything all at once. I took a step back from a few things while I did Despicable Me 2, and now that I’ve wrapped it up, I can start up a few more projects of mine,” says Cosgrove.

In Australia to promote the film, the young California native was taken by Sydney, Australia, despite the less than stellar weather.

“I really do love it here in Australia, I would have loved to have climbed the bridge but that rain just won’t do!” she laughs.

Anyone looking for a guilt-free romp at the cinemas, because let’s face it The Great Gatsby is just a tad hyped, make sure you see Despicable Me 2 and enjoy seeing the bad guy taking centre stage for once.

Despicable Me 2 is in cinemas now.
