Dean and Moore DeanRecitals Australia is proud to present the Dean and Moore Dean Trio in their world premiere performance Tales and Tributes. In this highly charged concert, internationally renowned composer performers and brothers, Brett Dean (viola) and Paul Dean (clarinet), combine their talents with “New York’s queen of avant-garde piano”, Lisa Moore, in a virtuosic program of classic and modern works.

Described by The Chicago Tribune as “a voice of fertile imagination, originality and expressive subtlety”, Australia’s Brett Dean is a conductor, violist and one of the most internationally performed composers of his generation – currently holding positions as Composer in Residence with the Australian World Orchestra, under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, Artist in Residence with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Artist in Association with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Canberra born and New York based pianist, Lisa Moore, brings a swathe of accolades and deep immersion with both contemporary and more traditional repertoire to the trio. Described by The New York Times as “beautiful, impassioned ….brilliant and searching”, Lisa Moore has recorded over 8 solo and 30 collaborative discs of works by some of the greatest American composers of the 20th and 21st centuries including Steve Reich, Terry Riley, John Luther Adams, Martin Bresnick and Philip Glass.

The trio is complete with outstanding Australian clarinettist, composer and Artistic Director of the Australian National Academy of Music, Paul Dean, whose next position will be Head of Woodwind at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

We’ve come together to play due to our mutual admiration of each other’s gifts and music making,” says Lisa Moore, adding that the trio’s new music experience has a profound impact on the way they approach more traditional music.

We see all music as being fresh and new, we can imagine the (dead) composer’s intentions while being connected to a living tradition”.

The program will open with the stately flow of Mozart’s Kegelstatt trio. Brett Dean will then deliver a striking personal tribute to a revered Berlin Philharmonic colleague in his Sketches for Siegbert. The first half concludes with the mysteriously titled *** trio composed by Martin Bresnick. The passionate Fairytales of Robert Schumann are followed by Four Pieces for clarinet and piano by Alban Berg. The concert closes with the delicately devastating and enigmatic Hommage à Robert Schumann by Hungarian composer György Kurtág.

Don’t miss this unique collaboration and world premiere of the Dean and Moore Dean Trio on Friday August 7 at 8pm in Elder Hall.

Tickets: $35 / $27 concession / $15 student, from http://recitalsaustralia.org.au, at the door or phone (08) 8266 4936.
