The Oxford Hotel hosted an intimate event last night to celebrate Dave Court’s newly appointed position as the third resident art curator.
The hotel has been an ongoing supporter of the local art scene, and this night was no exception. Court, joined by some of Adelaide’s emerging talent, showcased a collection of artworks to the exclusive attendance of guests.
‘My vision for The Oxford Hotel is to create an interesting and multi-faceted space that is enjoyable and has many visual elements to explore,’ said Court in a media statement.
The upstairs pool room had been completely transformed into a quirky display of paintings and installations. The standout of which was a room that was entirely covered in paint and graffiti from floor to ceiling. It was an engaging and immersive piece that nicely juxtaposed with the simplistic artworks that hung on the walls.
Visitors could admire these display of artworks, while they were treated to food samplings from the hotel’s new winter menu range. This included mushroom arancini balls on caramelised onion, mini crumbed chicken burgers and duck pancakes.
Their selection of beverages was also nothing short of our expectations. A particular favourite among guests was the Lemon Fizz cocktail, with Ambra Limoncello, Dunes and Greene sparkling, raspberry and basil served in a tall champagne glass.
A highlight of the night was witnessing The Oxford Hotel’s fortnightly event, Art Smash. This was where three pieces of art, that were created within a two-hour timeframe, were auctioned off to the highest bidders. The shear generosity of the audience was outstanding, with the highest bid of over $250 being awarded to Harriet McKay.
Overall, The Oxford Hotel’s dedication to offering a platform for Adelaide’s local art scene was certainly demonstrated in this event, and will hopefully continue to grow in the future with Court and his artistic talents.
