The MS World Velo Enduro 24 is a 24 hour team relay style cycling challenge that will be held on May 31 to June 1 2014 at the newly redeveloped Victoria Park racetrack in the picturesque east parklands. This event will provide a unique opportunity for the cycling community locally, nationally and internationally to raise much needed funds for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is a devastating neurological condition affecting more than 23,000 Australians.

The MS World Velo Enduro 24 will require riders to demonstrate endurance and tactics to complete the most laps of the racetrack in the 24 hour period. Teams must keep one cyclist on the track at all times. The event will consist of two tracks for the two categories – Elite for those with a racing licence and Enthusiast for the keen amateur cyclist, with the MS World Velo Enduro 24 World Title up for grabs.

Australian Cycling Gold Medallist Paralympian, Kieran Modra, looks forward to the challenge the 24 hour event will bring.

“Anyone can ride a bike, it is just a matter of having the drive or being inspired to take it one step further and take on the challenge. This event is about stepping up to the challenge, and helping people with MS,” he said.

Patrick Walsh, Vice President of Norwood Cycling Club thinks the ride will be a test of skill.

“It is a new concept that will provide an opportunity to really test yourself and your cycling skill, as well as working with your team members to manage fatigue and try and out manoeuvre the other teams.”

“There is no other 24 hour cycling event like it and the Victoria Park race track is a perfect central location for the event,” he said.

As well as the physical and mental challenge of the ride, teams are encouraged to fundraise for the MS Society of SA & NT and help people living with MS.

CEO of the MS Society of SA & NT, Graeme Warnock, hopes the event will become an annual fundraiser for the MS Society and help highlight some of the challenges people with MS face.

“Riding over a 24 hour period, the cyclists will experience fatigue, which is the most common symptom of multiple sclerosis so we hope people will gain some small insight into some of the difficulties people with MS face every day.”

“Money raised from this event will help people living with MS with essential services and support research for improved treatments and the search for a cure,” he said.

The event is capped due to the limited track space at Victoria Park, so we encourage teams to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
