Shane Van Gisbergen will go down in history as the last man to win the Clipsal 500 as the plug is pulled on South Australia’s best known naming rights sponsorship deal.
After 18 years as the naming rights sponsor of the Adelaide V8 Supercars race, Clipsal has pulled into the pits and won’t be coming back to the track next year.
But there’s plenty of talk trackside to suggest the name will live on, with the general consensus being that any street race in Adelaide will always be known as “Clipsal”.
“It’s a marketing masterstroke… it won’t ever be known as anything else and they won’t have to pay any more,” was one comment from an unnamed corporate.
Thanks for the memories, Clipsal. It’s been a great ride.
