Crowd at Adelaide Oval dig deep for flood victims

The South Australian Cricket Association tonight thanked cricket fans at Adelaide Oval for their generous support of the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.
Donations from the crowd at the KFC Twenty20 International between Australia and England tonight totaled $24,899 with the enthusiastic crowd of 32,205 digging deep.
Tonight, the first Twenty20 International to be played at Adelaide Oval, was a nail-biting event, going down to the last ball of the match, with England scraping home by just one run.
During the match, members of the Australian and English men’s and women’s cricket teams collected donations around the ground as the South Australian cricket community showed its support to the flood victims in Queensland.
“We can be very proud of the incredibly generous support of South Australian cricket fans,” SACA chief executive John Harnden said.
“While cricket was on show tonight, it is important to remember that a lot of people here were thinking about the real tragedy in Queensland.”
He said SACA would donate $50,000 to the flood appeal in Queensland.
In addition, Cricket Australia also donated $100,000 to the flood appeal with Cricket Australia Chairman Jack Clarke overwhelmed by the strong response from the cricket community.
“It has been heartening to hear of cricket clubs putting on sausage sizzles to raise money, fans wanting to make donations, Australian and English male and female cricketers offering to help and cricket’s commercial partners calling to ask what they can do to help.”
Those wishing to donate can either log onto www.qld.gov.au/floods or ring in to 1800 219 028.
