Marking the return of a Cirque du Soleil big top production to Adelaide, Cirque du Soleil’s iconic blue-and-yellow big top went up today, which will be home to the new production TOTEM at The Plateau in Tampawardli from June 11, 2015.

The spectacular ritual involved sixty men and women strenuously pushing up more than 100 supporting poles to raise the canvas roof of the massive big top.

The epic venue seats more than 2,600 people and takes 8 days to set up.  This includes installation of entrance, hospitality and rehearsal tents, box office, administrative offices and kitchen.

550 pegs are required to hold the big top firmly to 4,506 square metres of asphalt. Sitting atop the asphalt, the big top stands 19 metres high and is 51 metres in diameter. Certainly a grand addition to the parklands!

Combining mesmerizing acrobatic acts and stunning visual effects, TOTEM illustrates the evolutionary progress of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

TOTEM opens in Adelaide on June 11, 2015 for a limited season. For more information, visit www.cirquedusoleil.com/totem.
