This was a great start to my Cabaret Fringe Festival viewing, because I love the big band music and harmonies from this era.

Vocally these girls have got the goods, but their patter needs a little work! Their characters of Betty (Laura Monaghan), Dot (Sarah Gousse) and Mable (Bee Townsend) aka The Pacific Belles are fun and some of their banter works but they need to concentrate on what they do well, singing.

The Pacific Belles do a very good copy of the Andrews Sisters covering great hits like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Don’t sit under the Apple Tree, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Rum and Coca Cola and the Glenn Miller classic In the Mood.

The change of costume was cute, but the interval a little long for such a short show. The newer material, which was not circa 1940s but done in the same style, was clever but didn’t fit as well. It was also lacking the up beat tempo we have come to expect of this era’s music.

In all, a fun show well worth taking in for the excellent harmonies and the cute characters.
