Cavalia Raises its Signature White Big Top

Cavalia Tent

The largest touring tent in the world is now erected next to Adelaide Airport in preparation for the South Australia season of the multi-disciplinary theatrical production Cavalia: A Magical Encounter Between Human and Horse. Starting today, a team of 80 people will work on-site daily to build and complete the impressive Cavalia Village – home of the equestrian spectacular created by Normand Latourelle, one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil. Cavalia is set to open October 9 under the gleaming White Big Top located across from Harbour Town.

The Australian Tour showcases Cavalia’s brand new White Big Top, custom designed and created in Milan, Italy. Manufactured by 20 craftspeople, the new white canvas required a 3,000-square-metre warehouse for creation and took 10 days to be cut, 30 days to be assembled and five days to be packed for transport.

Cavalia3With fairytale spires towering 10-storey high, Cavalia’s White Big Top spans more than 2,440-square-metres and accommodates a colossal 50-metre-wide stage, behind which a constantly changing digital background is projected onto a 60-metre-wide screen, drawing spectators into dream-like virtual environments. The gigantic stage area provides equestrian stars room to gallop at times completely free and express themselves in all their grace, strength, and beauty.

Over the past decade, Cavalia’s White Big Top has graced the skylines of the largest North American and European cities. Weighing more than 50 tons, the White Big Top has more than 6,630-square-metres of canvas and seven trailers are required to transport it.

Last Sunday, Cavalia wrapped up its season in Melbourne after nine weeks of sold-out shows. Before settling in Victoria, the theatrical extravaganza touted by TODAY`s Richard Wilkins as “the most brilliant production imaginable” traveled to Brisbane and Sydney, where the two and four-legged performers wowed audiences and critics alike. Starting next month, the fourth Australian leg for the multi-disciplinary spectacular will kick off in the state capital of South Australia. In December, the Canadian-based troupe will perform in Perth.

Enjoyed by some 4 million spectators, Cavalia is a unique and lavish production involving 45 magnificent horses and featuring 33 riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians from all over the world. A show unlike any other, Cavalia celebrates the relationship between humans and horses, virtually reinventing the equestrian arts.
