After eight years in Light Square, they are now in a brand new, much larger, basement space in the West End district, close to the heart of the city.

Established in 2003 as an intimate World Music club, Zhivago quickly gained a reputation for being a casual creative space where people comfortably mingle, converse and dance the night away.

They evolved in 2005 changing the music and the feel of the club, becoming one of Adelaide’s most intriguing and talked about clubs in the West End.

They are fortunate to have consistently experienced a strong trade over the years, based on their loyal crowd following. After weekly line ups becoming a common occurrence, they decided to expand the club to accommodate all, and take it to the next level! They have doubled their capacity to 250 allowing for more vibrant revelling.

A brand-new element they’re incorporating into the Zhivago experience is the introduction of their two exclusive bar areas that can be hired for private parties with service provided by their gorgeous “Strut Crew.” They will serve drinks to your table and provide the ultimate experience in Nightclub hospitality.

Another signature feature is their dedication to art, so they’ve enlisted the talented services of their favourite prominent Adelaide Street Artists, Tarns (87, Coldkrush Gallery) and Monk (96, Toy soldiers Member).

So put on your best threads, and strap yourself in for the wild ride that is the Zhivago Experience. Friday nights “Skream”, Saturday nights “High Heels”, and Industry night is “Black Cheery Sundays.” For more information on their featured nights and music line-ups, check out the guide on their new
website www.zhivago.com.au or in the street press.

As the father of a nut‐allergic son, Richard Sims, General Manager of Operations at Robern Menz, only knows too well about the safety concerns around cross‐contamination and the use of nut‐based ingredients.

“Until now, most packaged confectionery has been strictly off limits to anyone with nut allergies because of the ingredients used and/or the use of nut warnings. This is why it is so exciting that we now offer a dedicated nut‐free factory," said Mr Sims.

"We understand how serious food allergies are and we are pleased to advise that all of our products manufactured and packed at our Glynde facility are safe for our nut‐allergic customers to eat."

Rest assured though, Robern Menz will still continue to sell family favourites such as their Menz Peanut Chocs, Almond Chocs and Fruit ‘n’ Nut Chocs.

“These lines are manufactured and packaged in a different factory under strict nut handling processes to Robern Menz guidelines” said Mr Sims.

Currently rolling out Stage 1 of its Go Green with Public Lighting project, Council will progressively replace all of its 5,000 existing public lights with energy efficient LED globes in an effort to cut back electricity use and carbon emissions.

“This innovative project demonstrates Council’s commitment to a sustainable and environmentally-friendly city,” Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said.

“We are the first Council in South Australia and one of the first in the country to install energy efficient LED lights on a large scale.”

“They are a shining light for sustainability and will provide high-quality and consistent white light, adding to the vibrancy and safety of city streets.”

Stage 1 will see a total of 405 public lights replaced with the latest in light emitting diode (LED) technology at the following locations: Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Grote Street, Wakefield Street, Wakefield Road, Glen Osmond Road, King William Street, Medindie Road, Victoria Square, Light Square / Morphett Street and Montefiore Road.

The ageing lights that are being replaced are at the end of their lifespan and are predominantly energy-intensive metal halide, mercury vapour and high pressure sodium lights. The new LED lights use much less energy and therefore produce far fewer carbon emissions, deliver high quality and consistent lighting and will maintain high levels of output over time.

“The first stage is expected to reduce energy use, carbon emissions and cost by 38% with a payback of just over 6 years,” Stephen said.

“This equates to 200,650 kWh per annum and a reduction of 144 tonnes of carbon – the equivalent of taking 37* cars off the road each year.”

The project is part of Council’s Energy Management Action Plan 2011-2014, adopted by Council last May. Planning for Stage 2 is currently underway and will involve the replacement of further street and pedestrian lighting.

Council set a target to reduce carbon emissions from its own operations by 60% by 2012 and achieved this interim target ahead of schedule by the end of the 2009/10 financial year. It is now on schedule to becoming completely carbon neutral by 2020.

The Nespresso story began with a simple but revolutionary idea: enable anyone to create the perfect cup of espresso coffee – just like a skilled barista. An unrelenting focus on innovation and R&D led to the invention of unique technology that delivers a balance between the right water temperature, quantity and speed, along with 19 bars of pressure creating the perfect cup every time.

Nespresso Grand Cru coffees are produced from an exclusive selection of the finest green coffee grown in the world. Only an estimated 1-2% of the coffee grown globally meets our specific taste and aroma profiles and our high standards of quality and sustainability. The Nespresso coffee experts at our state-of-the-art production centres in Switzerland compose a range of Grand Cru coffees with unique flavour, aroma profiles and a tantalising crema.

For over 25 years, Nespresso has grown into one of the most well recognised brands in the world of coffee; a brand focused on creating perfect experiences and moments of pleasure.

Continuous innovation and a passion for perfection results in the entire Nespresso system – from the genuine aluminum capsule, to the brewing and extraction unit – designed to work as one, delivering the perfect cup of coffee time after time.

Coffee is at the heart of all we do. Yet consumer pleasure is why we do it.

Our global network of boutiques offers an insight into the brand, providing consumers with a unique opportunity to experience Nespresso with all their senses. Visit one of our boutiques whether it is in New York, Paris, Shanghai, Brussels, Sydney or Munich for the ultimate coffee experience. We now have over 215 boutiques and look forward to Adelaide becoming our latest addition.

The iconic Central Market is on the cusp of a new era with Adelaide City Council last night endorsing a new independent management structure to be known as the Adelaide Central Market Authority.

Judy Potter – former CEO of SA Great and currently Chair of the Adelaide Fringe Festival – has been appointed Chair of the new independent management board for the iconic Central Market.

Announced today by Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood, Judy will lead a five-member Board, bringing with them a mix of food, retail and market expertise as well as property management skills, marketing experience and corporate insight.

“The move aims to improve current operations and ensure the Market remains a vibrant and sustainable part of the city’s landscape,” Stephen said.

“Adelaide City Council is committed to making sure the Central Market continues to be a lively and colourful food mecca, buzzing with life and activity all year round.”

“Judy and the new operating model will bring a fresh and contemporary approach to running and promoting the venue and will ensure it remains competitive with the rest of the food retail industry.”

It will be the first time in history that the Market will be run by a self-governing Board of Directors who will work independently in the best interest of the Market.

“As a passionate market lover I am delighted to be appointed as the inaugural Chair of the Adelaide Central Market Authority,” Judy said.

“My first priority is to engage with traders which will start with a market walk around with the Lord Mayor. My message will be simple; I am committed to ensuring that the Central Market remains the preeminent food destination and experience not only in South Australia but to be recognised internationally.”

The Board’s role will be to oversee and develop the market in line with the Central Market Charter, which has been endorsed by Council and outlines the vision, goals and overall strategic direction of the Market. They will be required to submit a rolling strategic plan and an annual business plan to Council for approval as well as provide Performance Reports on an agreed basis.

Councillor Megan Hender said because Councillors and stall-owners will not be appointed to the Board, it will ensure complete autonomy.

“By having an independent board come in, with an outside perspective, it will mean they can just get on with the job of managing and improving the Market.”

Traders will also have a role in the model through a Trader Advisory Group and the existing Trader Association.

President of the Traders Association Franz Knoll said “It will create a new era for the precinct where all stakeholders will have the same goals and outcomes as the basis of the relationship.”

Council will still maintain ownership of the Market and is aiming to have the four other board members appointed by May and the Authority operating by July 2012.

“This is an exciting new era for the Central Market and one that will ensure the Central Market will prosper and grow well into the future,” said Councillor Houssam Abiad.

The new entity will be established as a subsidiary under section 42 of the Local Government Act 1999 and is subject to Ministerial sign-off.

The classes will run for eight weeks in front of the fountain at the northern end of Victoria Square from 5.40pm to 6.10pm. Zumba will take place every Tuesday starting February 7th and group fitness classes will be every Thursday from February 9th.

Last year the sessions were an overwhelming success, attracting hundreds of participants each week.

“Given the popularity of last year’s trial program, Council looked at options, including ways of partnering with the fitness industry, to help city workers get their fitness fix,” Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said.

“We are thrilled to have Fitness Australia on board with us this year. It’s a great opportunity for people to get their recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day in the heart of the city and best of all it’s free – so there is no excuse not to get out there and get active.”

Both classes will be led by registered exercise professionals from businesses across the city.

“The fitness industry is delighted to be involved with the program this year,” said Joel Perricone from Fitness Australia.

“Over the 8 weeks of the program we are looking forward to showcasing the quality, professionalism and diversity the industry has to offer. Most of all we are excited to be contributing to getting Adelaide active.”

The workouts are suitable for people of all fitness levels, including those just starting out and wanting a little more activity in their days.

Zumba is a fun and exhilarating workout, combining Latin and international music with easy-to- follow dance routines while the group fitness classes will incorporate a variety of cardio, resistance and core exercises.

There is no need to register but participants are asked to turn up to each session 10 minutes early as sessions will start at 5.40pm sharp.

Having been delayed at Brisbane airport yesterday, the team landed in Townsville two hours late and missed their training slot that evening.

The team will be having a shoot around today in preparation for tonight’s match.

“Townsville have won their past three games and they are in good form,”

The team has its own expectations and are determined to get the win tonight for their own pride and for their fans.

Adelaide will be playing Townsville three times in the next three weeks and tonight have the opportunity to get an advantage against the Crocs.

The 36ers will be playing the Crocodiles at the Adelaide Arena on Sunday 12 February at 4pm for the third and final match between the teams.

Tickets start from $20 for adults and are available from www.proticket.com.au
