awards_scholarshipsThe 2014 Lady Mollie Isabelle Askin Ballet Scholarship has opened, with trustee of the award, The Trust Company, part of Perpetual, calling for applications.

The Scholarship is awarded every two years to applicants who show outstanding ability and promise in the art of ballet. It is open to males and females aged between 17 and 30.

Perpetual will award three recipients with $20,000 each to assist with costs related to study, maintenance and travel within Australia or abroad.

An important condition of the Scholarship is that it must go to individuals who may not be able to continue their studies in line with their ability due to financial reasons.

Perpetual hopes to draw a diverse array of applicants while promoting the legacy of the Askins. Sir Robert Askin was the 32nd premier of New South Wales from 1965-1975. Upon his death in 1981, his estate was left to wife Lady Mollie Askin who established the deed for the Scholarship in 1982.

As intended by Lady Askin, this travelling Scholarship continues to support “the furtherance of culture and the advancement of education in Australia or elsewhere”. Recipients must present “outstanding ability and promise in ballet”.

Perpetual’s General Manager of Philanthropy, Andrew Thomas, said: “As a philanthropist, Lady Askin has made a significant commitment to supporting talented, young Australian dancers.

“As trustee of the Scholarship we’re proud to be keeping her legacy alive through the management and distribution of this funding.”

Applications for the Lady Mollie Isabelle Askin Ballet Scholarship close 29 September 2014.
