By Doing This One Simple Thing, You Could Help Some Of SA’s Most Vulnerable Children

SA charity Kickstart for Kids’ is on a mission to raise $10,000 to support 150 disadvantaged children by the end of September. Here’s how you can help.

South Australian charity Kickstart For Kids (KSFK) is on a mission to raise $10,000 by the end of September to support 150 children aged between 5 and 13 who will be attending their October school holiday camp – Camp Kickstart.

KickStart For Kids aims to help disadvantaged school children through breakfast, lunch and mentoring programs around positive educational and self esteem outcomes.

From as little as $5 you can change the life of a vulnerable child who has been affected by poverty and abuse by providing them with new clothes, shoes and a safe environment to enjoy their school holidays.

KSFK CEO Ian Steel OAM said many of the children who attend Camp Kickstart have experienced the ramifications of drug addiction, abuse, mental illness, poverty and homelessness. The funds raised will be used to provide the children with new clothes, shoes, nutritious meals and personal care necessities such as toothbrushes, combs, and deodorant.

Mr Steel said KSFK needs to raise $50 per a child attending the camp. Donations can be made at the KSFK website. KSFK is also accepting donations of NEW clothes, shoes and toiletries for the children.

“At Camp Kickstart each child is given a backpack and the opportunity to ‘shop’ at the pop up shop for new clothes, shoes and toiletries of their choosing from a range of brand new goods that have been donated by KSFK supporters across South Australia. It is a simple experience that so few of these children rarely have,” Mr Steel said.

The October school holiday camps will be taking place at Westport Primary School in Semaphore Park, Keller Road Primary School in Salisbury East and Morphett Vale Primary School.

Each day Camp Kickstart transport the children to and from the camps where they will be provided with wholesome, nutritious meals, clothes and a range of fun activities and excursions with children their own age.

Items in demand for the pop up shop include:

  • Sandshoes and slip-on shoes, size 6 – 13, boys and girls
  • T-shirts – prefer plain or sports branded
  • Shorts or long pants
  • Jumpers
  • Undies and socks
  • Toiletries – toothpaste, deodorant, hair brush, comb
