Build Your Own Bike… With An Allen Key

Markus Hamence takes a closer look at the IKEA bike…

‘Assembly required!’, many relationships have broken up, driven many to drink alcohol too early in the day and arguments & huffiness have wasted many a weekend. The positive is, IKEA though have always challenged a part of our brain that requires solving puzzles and indeed filled our homes with an array of rather well designed key pieces (that we assembled ourselves).

And this one should be no exception… IKEA release unto their stores… a bike (that requires assembly).
Introducing ‘Sladda’ (Meaning: To skid sideways).

Not going to lie, a bit taken by it. A belt drive, rust proof, durable and essentially maintenance-free take on the regular chain with a super lightweight aluminum frame which is coated in 2 layers of lacquer to make it resistant to scratching, road salt and mud. Plus you can also adjust the height and angle of the handlebar to suit your size and get a riding position that suits you best. A guarantee is included to boot, tick.

And as per many IKEA products it also come with a plethora of attachments, ad-ons and accessories, including a helmet and even a trailer!!!!, BONUS – thus far – no lycra to be seen. Why do the base model when you can have it all right?

But enough of the ‘blah, blah’ features jargon, to summarize, hipsters will be over this. It’s a good looking bike that would be more than suitable treading around town, to the markets, out for Sunday breakfast etc… after of course you’ve assembled it.
