Brekkie Worthy Of An Award: The Adelaide Hills Eatery Smashing Goals

With a stylish & comfortable ambience, friendly staff and a menu packed with interesting brekkie goodness, we were excited to check out FRED Eatery for ourselves.

It’s no wonder that Aldgate’s FRED Eatery was the winner of this year’s Restaurant and Catering’s Excellence Award for Breakfast in the North East. With a stylish and comfortable ambience, friendly staff and a menu packed with interesting brekkie goodness, we were excited to check it out for ourselves.

Every day should start with fairy floss. Maybe not the pre-packaged pink type you pick up at the Royal Show, but a dash of it on top of granola never did anyone any harm right? Well, FRED certainly think it’s ‘just right’ (hence the name Goldilock’s Granola) and we’re definitely not ones to argue. Accompanied by golden maple roasted with saffron syrup yoghurt and banana as well as the flossy topper, this delight has the perfect amount of naughty to go with all that cereal crunch. It was almost too pretty to eat – we say almost!

If you are looking for something a little different, you can’t go past the Indian eggs. Delicious lightly spiced, scrambled free-range eggs from Murphy’s Crossing served with roti, roasted cumin yoghurt and a snow pea tendril salad. We can’t say that we’ve ever considered curry flavours for breakfast in the past, but after one bite, we were sold. Our neighbouring diners even had a bit of plate envy over this one.

It might sound simple, but we’ve always rated a breakfast place on how they poach their eggs. At FRED we weren’t disappointed. They were perfectly soft poached when they arrived as part of the Harissa Spiced Pumpkin and Feta mash. It comes with greens and an almond dukkah and you can also add bacon if you wish too. Yum!

All the favourites are covered as well with smashed avo, FRED’s bircher, French toast, croque monsieur and egg bacon and rocket roll just to name a few. There is also ‘a little of a lot’ – FRED’s answer to the big brekkie that includes bacon, fried or poached eggs, roasted mushrooms, buttered greens, chipolatas, balsamic roasted tomato and toasted ciabatta sourdough. And if that doesn’t do it for you – you can always DIY your brekkie adding a range of sides to two eggs your way.

Our four legged friends aren’t forgotten either.  There’s ‘pooch parking’ out the back and your pampered pet can even get themselves a doggy latte made with lactose-free milk and a sprinkle of turmeric. Oh yeah, your pup will be so ‘now’

There is something for everyone at FRED Eatery with an early breakfast menu (7:30am-11:45am), an all day brekky menu (7:30am-3pm) and lunch also being served from noon til 3pm. It’s also licensed, providing a fabulous range of SA beer, cider and wine.

It’s worth a call to book a table too, especially on a weekend, as this is one very popular eatery among both locals and those enjoying a drive through the hills. You can find FRED Eatery on Facebook and Instagram as FREDEATERY or check out their website fredeatery.com.au
