Breaching Borders. Day 1, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week

Today began a week of exploration, education and FASHION as this Adelaide girl dove into Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) 2011.

This amazing festival of fashion bursts onto city streets from today (Monday, 5 September) until Sunday, 11 September, launching seven days of spring/summer trends, cultural events and engaging fashion inspired action.

Now in its 17th year, MSFW provides a captivating platform for established and emerging Australian designers to showcase seasonal collections, while offering consumers the chance to discover the latest runway looks, in store.

Last year 80,000 people attended MSFW across the week long event and this year attendance levels are anticipated to reach 100,000. With over 150 events on the program, MSFW 2011 promises to bigger and better than ever before.

To kick things off, tonight I attended an intimate evening with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week ambassador Dannii Minogue. The Town Hall event showcased an exclusive preview of 'One Perfect Moment' an exhibition of her red carpet couture.

The evening's event was well attended by some famous Aussie faces, including the J'Aton boys, who dressed Dannii in a stunning vintage style gown for the night (pictured top right).

Other guests included Brian McFadden and his DJ girlfriend Vogue Williams who played for the crowd, while looking stunning in her gorgeous gold sequined cocktail dress.

Tania Zaetta was also in attendance, and stuck closely by Dannii Minogue's side throughout the event, while Dannii's partner Chris Smith also stayed by her side.

In true new mum style, I managed to get Dannii talking about babies with me, and we compared notes, while talking about juggling careers and families. Despite worrying about if she'd be aloof, she really came across as a down-to-earth, passionate person & everyone who managed to chat to her was impressed by her demeaner. She was a fantasic choice as an ambassador for MSWF.

As for the rest of the guests, the 100-odd VIPs were dressed to impress and certainly made for a fashionable first impression of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.

Following the VIP soiree, we set off to Gill's Diner, down Little Collins, and were treated to an abundance of Victorian food & wine. A fabulous experience which everyone enjoyed.

This is certainly the way to see Melbourne if you have the opportunity!

Now I'm off to bed (how ridiculously responsible of me) in preparation for a full day tomorrow.
