I have been asked to review the fourth book in this series so have started with the first. This fantasy story sets in place the opportunity for a complex and entertaining future sequence. The characters are as multilayered as the two worlds in which the story is set. The story itself will resonate with the projected young adult readers and those who enjoy a fantasy-based tale involving love and the burgeoning search for identity as a young girl is placed in an untenable position between emotion and family expectations.
Amy is the adopted daughter of Lewis and Karen Smith. She has always struggled with severe allergies and must live her life watching for life threatening triggers. She has a younger sister, Ashleigh, and two extremely close friends who all are tied into her health issues and dealing with her different needs. These young people share everything: their hopes, their problems, their fears and their happiness.
Their lives become even stranger when Amy begins having dreams; dreams of an unknown but beautiful place and a young man called Leif, who is seeking someone called Marla. As time passes it seems Marla is Amy’s birth name and her parents are not of this world but from a world called Faera. She is, in fact, Fae.
The back story of her being placed amongst humans and Leif’s search for her as his betrothed is complicated as is the need for her to be returned to Faera before her eighteenth birthday. The twists and turns of the tale have the reader, at times, holding their breath as new information is divulged and sexual tension mounts while the couple try to balance lives and customs in two worlds.
I look forward to reading the next in the series, Allegiance, as I work my way through to the final in the series, Telophy.
