Bonobo On Bank St An Instant Coffee Hit

Bank Street gets a new little hole in the wall with a deep knowledge of caffeine and laid back personality.

Do we need even more choices for coffee? Seriously, if you were to create a Google Map for coffee in Adelaide you’d barely be able to walk 100 metres through our main strips and thoroughfares without seeing a few caffeinated havens.

But then, every now and then, you have a coffee that makes you sad. It’s bitter, the milk is burnt, for all the flavour you’re getting in your mouth you could have just milked the almond yourself and rubbed it in the dirt and you just paid money for it.

That is why Adelaide needs more coffee shops. Good coffee shops. Places where the barista knows his beans, knows his roaster, has taken the time to taste and experiment with their flavours, their milks. Where you pay for a tiny bit of someone’s care and passion, not just for a cup of coffee. Anyone would pay good money for that.

Bonobo Espresso
Which is exactly what Bonobo, a fresh faced new player on Bank Street is aiming to do. Owner Derek was once a writer and film producer who would follow coffee events and destinations across the country. He’s a student, who is setting out to become the master and he’s got both his heart and his head behind the new venture.

Starting with a base of Bonobo are offering their very own in house ‘Monkey magic’ blend, as well as single origin from Costa Rica, they’re also offering a 9 Spice Wet Chai blend which is an absolute must try for those who chase their coffee alternatives. Milk Lab Almond and Coconut milks, Bonsoy and Fleurieu Full Cream are all stocked, with in house muesli and yoghurt for breakfast while The Bagelry has stocked the refrigerator with some tasty lunch options.

While the vibe is definitely drop-in-and-keep-moving we had an equally enjoyable time at the stand up bar with the bi-fold windows open overlooking the Bank St hustle. With renovations of the street due next year, it feels like just enough time for Bonobo to really hit their straps before emerging as a real focal point of the strip.

Bonobo Espresso is open from 7am-3.30pm weekdays at 16 Bank Street. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
