Black Screen: Free movies for Reconciliation Week

Get to the Hopgood Theatre, Noarlunga on Wednesday night for free screenings of Indigenous films, including Bangarra Dance Theatre’s feature film, “Spear”.

Black Screen is an initiative of the National Film and Sound Archive which celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people and culture by promoting cultural awareness and First Nations screen culture by providing entertainment to all members of the community, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal.

Following the launch of the Country Arts SA Reconciliation Action Plan, their commitment to First Nations content remains strong, and they support the industry by showcasing Australia’s First Nations talent on and off screen.

Everyone is invited to attend FREE screenings of these Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander films as part of the
Reconciliation Week celebrations 27 May to 3 June at Country Arts SA Arts Centres across the state.

Short films by local Aboriginal community members and family films from the National Film and Sound Archive
will be screened alongside feature film, Spear, by Bangarra Dance Theatre who be bringing the live dance work
Terrain to regional South Australia in November.

Black Screen will be held Wednesday June 1, 7pm, Hopgood Theatre.

Since Black Screen was first presented in our Arts Centres in 2011, audience numbers have grown dramatically and the program has expanded to 9 venues this year. This provides local communities with the unique opportunity to experience Australia’s Indigenous talent on the big screen.

Local schools have been invited to display artwork they have been creating in response to Reconciliation Week.
