Bird In Hand Judged ‘World’s Best’ At Decanter Asia Wine Awards

Of the 2,854 tasted, it’s hardly a surprise to use that this was the result.

Bird In Hand has been awarded ‘Best Chardonnay’ for their Nest Egg Chardonnay 2012 at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards [DAWA].

The Australian winery’s Nest Egg Chardonnay 2012 was among fifteen wines that received the Platinum Best in Show medal, the highest accolade at the awards introduced as a new category this year.

Chief Winemaker at Bird in Hand Kym Milne MW: “We are delighted with the international recognition for our Nest Egg Chardonnay 2012. This is a great credit to our passionate and hardworking winemaking team. Bird in Hand and the Adelaide Hills region is known for its production of elegant cool climate Chardonnay and this award is a welcome endorsement.”

Over 40 top wine experts from across Asia, led by Chair and British wine expert Steven Spurrier, individually tasted 2,854 wines during the DAWA judging week held in Hong Kong last month. DAWA is Asia’s largest and most trusted wine competition and recruits key influencers in the Asia market for the judging panel, including Decanter’s vice-chairs Ch’ng Poh Tiong, Shinya Tasaki, Gerard Basset MW MS OBE, Michael Hill Smith MW, Andrew Jefford and DecanterChina columnist Li Demei.

Chair Stephen Spurrier: “The sole purpose of the DAWA is to recognise and award quality.” Bird in Hand’s success at DAWA continues a strong tradition for the winery and their Nest Egg Chardonnay 2012, recently awarded ‘Australian Wine of the Year’, ‘Australian Winery of the Year 2015’ and ‘Australian Winemaker of the Year 2014/15’ [Kym Milne MW] by Winestate magazine.
