Bay To Birdwood Run Will Zoom Through SA This Sunday

bayNow in its 34th year, the Bay to Birdwood has grown to become the largest historic motoring celebration of its kind in the world today. Taking place on Sunday September 28th, this year’s event is for vehicles manufactured before 1956.

With almost 1000 vintage and veteran vehicles already registered to participate, this year’s Bay to Birdwood Run also celebrates 100 years of military motoring history and 100 years of the Dodge motor vehicle.

The morning will begin at 6am at Adelaide Shores, Barratt Reserve, West Beach, where around 4000 people will enjoy breakfast amongst the vehicles. At 8:30am legendary flag waver Glen Dix will then signal off each vehicle to traverse the 70km route.

Martin Haese, Chairman of the Bay to Birdwood is encouraging the community to line the streets and bring their deck chairs and picnic baskets to watch the cavalcade of motoring history make its way through the suburbs to the glorious Adelaide Hills. This year’s route returns to North East Road but turns right into Grand Junction Road, heading up through Houghton, Inglewood and Gumeracha, finishing at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood. From 10am – 5pm around 10,000 people will wander amongst the vehicles, enjoy the fashion, food, entertainment and children’s activities. Visitors to the Museum will also be able to see the collection of 300+ vintage, veteran and classic cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles.

Entertainment on stage will be the lovely Boswell Project and SA finalists ofAustralia’s Got Talent the Foenander Bros.Entrants and the general public are encouraged to dress up in their best outfit of the 1920s through to the 1950s for a chance of being chosen for the Fashions in the Field parade.

Over 30 entries have been received for the highly-coveted Concours d’Elegance which will see entrants going to great lengths to impress the judges with their vehicle, personal attire and the overall presentation.
