Australian First New Facial Recognition Technology Takes The Hassle Out Of Getting A Police Check

In an Australian first, new facial recognition technology takes the hassle out of getting a police check returning checks inside 24-48 hours.

crimecheckWhen it comes to police checks, National Crime Check have changed the game with this month’s release of an Australian first technology to improve and streamline process. Lining up at your local police station and waiting 4-6 weeks for an outcome is now a thing of the past. The innovative facial recognition technology National Crime Check have implemented on their online portal is a first in the industry.

National Crime Check’s facial recognition technology enables users to complete their police check in real-time online and in the comfort of their own home – you can even do it wearing your PJs! Best of all (and music to an employer’s ears) your police check will be complete, with the official documentation being sent to you, within 24-48* hours.

Martin Lazarevic, General Manager, National Crime Check explains “The whole process introduces pioneering proof of identity technology in a secure online environment which has become so easy that you can do your police check anywhere, anytime, as long as you have access to a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop connected to the internet.

With a few finger strokes, you can fill in your details and use a webcam to show your 100 points of identity. Although it is an Australian first, this technology is already being embraced overseas by businesses such as AirBnB and United Airlines.”

Employers are increasing their vulnerability and susceptibility for being taken advantage of if they do not check their potential employee’s criminal records and social media personas. Statistics obtained by the Australian Federal Police indicate that, “70 percent of business fraud losses are from staff and former staff, costing business’ over 1.5 billion a year. The Australian Retailers Association estimates 55 percent of stock shrinkage relates to employee theft.”[1]

Now, with a police check being so simple and hassle free, employers can achieve peace of mind about potential employees. Previously, employees in specific industries such as childcare and healthcare have been required to produce a police check, but it is now standard for anyone to be asked where they can easily attain a check to show an employer.

National Crime Check is accredited with the CrimTrac agency (a division of the Federal Attorney General’s Department) and began to run Australian National Criminal History Checks for businesses and individuals nationwide and has a comprehensive privacy and security control system in place. NCC has completed over 150,000 Australian Criminal History Checks to date. With this new technology that number is expected to rise and the potential client list is seemingly endless.

The company has also grown from processing 1962 checks in 2010 to now processing 67,000 in 2014 to date. With the implementation of this new technology expects to process 200,000 checks per year within the next 5 years.
