Another Cool Bar Hits An Adelaide City Laneway

Get ready Adelaide, another bar is opening and this one is set to be awesome as an inner city laneway is transformed into an Asian inspired haunt

Adelaide’s inner city bar and restaurant scene welcomed Kangkong with open arms earlier this year. Now the Topham Mall precinct is about to get even livelier with the opening of Gypsy Dragon Laneway Bar.

Combining live music, featured DJs, premium beers and spirits and a wall full of graffiti art, Gypsy Dragon has taken a small space and made it their own.

“Gypsy Dragon Laneway Bar is exactly as it sounds – an incredibly unique bar slotted into a laneway space previously ignored by many” co-owner Robert Parsons said.

“We’ve added a custom made outdoor bar, plenty of cosy seating and we offer wallet friendly food made in the Kangkong kitchen which is modified so it’s easy to eat as bar food.

“With our mix of live music and regular DJs, Gypsy Dragon is the perfect option for an after work drink or to dance off the week” he explained.

Cocktails with an Asian inspired twist such as Chinatown Manhattan and Vietnamese Espresso Martini add a further interesting element this unique space. But the real focal point of Gypsy Dragon is the huge graffiti art mural covering an entire wall of the outdoor bar.

“We commissioned local artist Fredrico Roldan to create our signature graffiti wall featuring a dragon and a Geisha” said Ron Kohli, the other half of the business partners behind Kangkong and Gypsy Dragon.

“We employed Fredrico as part of the Adelaide City Council mentoring program. It means the graffiti wall is not only a talking point, but a way of supporting local art in all its many forms, something we encourage” he said.

The opening of Gypsy Dragon Laneway Bar is the icing on the cake for the recently redeveloped Topham Mall area which has seen an influx of pop up business over the past six months.

Gypsy Dragon is open from midday Tuesday to Saturday and closes at 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. Gypsy Dragon officially opens to the public on the Friday 2nd October with a night of free food.

Media and local personalities are invited to a soft opening on Thursday 1st October to enjoy a night of music and fire twirling entertainment. Glam Adelaide will be there to cover the event so keep your eye out on our Instagram account @GlamAdelaide for the latest.
