Anime Film Festival is a GO! This Weekend

The Boy and the Beast

Adelaide’s first Japanese anime film festival arrives in Prospect on 22 October with new release movies, anime-inspired entertainment, Japanese food and music.

Adelaide’s first Japanese anime film festival AnimeGO! is about to land in Prospect, with plenty of new release movies, anime-inspired entertainment, Japanese food, and music making up the event’s program on 22 October 2016.

The Japan Australia Friendship Association (JAFA) is running Adelaide’s newest film festival to celebrate Australia’s relationship with Japan. They’re the team behind Adelaide’s biggest Japanese Festival, Kodomo no Hi Japan Festival which is in its 21st year.

Anime GO! will showcase some of the latest and greatest anime including screenings of the much anticipated The Boy and the Beast, Psycho-Pass the Movie, Patema Inverted and Only Yesterday.

AnimeGO! festival goers can also watch Retrospekt’s popular trivia game show, browse stalls from Greenlight Comics, enjoy food and entertainment at a Maid Café, and witness a drumming performance by Matsuri Taiko.

“Anime has become a pop culture phenomenon, but it’s the community it creates between those who watch it, talk about it and bond over it that makes it so strong,” Event Co-Ordinator Steven Attwood said.

“Adelaide probably is the second most fanatical city in Australia. We’re experiencing an astounding buzz online around AnimeGO! All our reach and engagements have increased around 200 percent.”

JAFA has been awarded funding from the Australia Japan Foundation to create AnimeGO!.

“We aim to encourage and motivate our audience’s interest in the Australia Japan relationship through the art and film of Anime,” Steven said.

The event’s funding is in aid of Australia’s special strategic partnership with Japan, which is vital to the country’s economic, strategic and security interests.

AnimeGO! will take place on 22 October 2016 at the Prospect Town Hall from 11am to 11pm.

For more information, visit the AnimeGO! website, with tickets available through Eventbrite.

*Note: the AnimeGO! festival is not associated with the annual Japanese Film Festival running the same weekend at the Mercury Cinema.
