Album Review: New Empire ‘In a Breath’

In a Breath is the four-man band’s latest album, following their older sounds on Symmetry (2011) and Come with Me Tonight (2008).

10291864_10152437752156663_1181221352843665912_nNew Empire have produced three albums since their birth out of Sydney.  In a Breath is the four-man band’s latest album, following their older sounds on Symmetry (2011) and Come with Me Tonight (2008).  The title says it all, this album is literally a breath of fresh air.

Unlike most alternative rock bands who drone on and on about life, with their personal flare of negative connotations and self doubt, New Empire does the exact opposite and has created an album that will evoke both hope and nostalgia.  While you’re listening to the album you feel like you have your own personal therapist coming directly from your speakers.  New Empire just “gets” you.

The band’s new album has gained popularity on iTunes.  It is no surprise that their song Say It Like You Mean It is their most popular song with soul searching lyrics like:

“Say it like you mean it
Like you’ve got a reason to go on
Ohh tell me can you feel it?”

Say It Like You Mean It captures the band’s iconic sound, reminiscent of music by The Getaway Plan or Amy Meredith. The organic instrumentals solidify New Empires place in the hierarchy of Australian pop rock and have caught the attention of big-name publications like Channel [V] and MTV.

The four-piece has already landed support slots for world renowned artists Owl City, Neon Trees, Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.  With their refreshing lyrics and pure emotiveness, New Empire quite possibly could be the next big thing for the Australian music industry.
