Caroline Bowditch
Performer, maker, teacher, speaker and mosquito buzzing in the ears of the arts industry, Caroline Bowditch is coming to Adelaide.
As an Agent for Change Caroline worked with Scottish Dance Theatre from 2008 to 2012. There she was a catalyst for bringing disabled works and artists to the forefront of the Scottish arts landscape.
“There is a lot of uncertainty about disabled people in the arts,” says Bowditch. “As an Agent for Change you have the opportunity to shift peopleʼs thinking and move them in to unknown territory without fear by supporting them through the process.
“People donʼt like change and I like to think Iʼm facilitating it by asking questions other people are afraid to ask and question why they are doing things a certain way. Itʼs about how we can change it together – supporting change by encouraging news ways to do it.”
Access2Arts(A2A) is bringing Caroline to Adelaide for a series of workshops and seminars with Adelaideʼs arts sector.
“As an Agent for Change at Scottish Dance Theatre, Caroline broke down barriers and opened up possibilities for many people and organisations in Scotland and beyond. Having Caroline here, provides a unique opportunity for everyone in the arts sector in South Australia to engage with someone who is an exceptional artist, thinker and change maker.”
Caroline Bowditch is Australian born but now based in Glasgow. A wheelchair user, she is a performance artist and choreographer who has been dancing for 25 years. Her work has won a Herald Angel Award at Edinburgh Festival and currently she is working with Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), Dundee Rep Theatre (Promoting Equalities Project) and British Council (Unlimited Access). In April 2014 she was appointed Visiting Professor at Coventry Universityʼs Centre for Dance Research.
