360 has tipped him as the next huge thing to happen in hip hop, he took Triple J’s Like a Version by storm, and his debut album is one of the most anticipated of 2014.
After a string of successful singles, EPs and free mixtapes, Allday (aka Tomas Gaynor) is finally releasing a record, with the first single “Right Now” already turning heads.
Debut album Start Up Cult is set for release July 4th and to celebrate, Allday shunned an industry party in favour of a bus ride with fans.
“I had this idea for the album to make the launch about the fans, like a real personal thing. People post on Instagram to show they’re really big fans and then if the label selects them, we put them on the bus and drive them around Melbourne and Sydney,” he said.
The 23-year-old who chose his name to represent his love of rapping all day, has worked hard to achieve so much in such a short time.
“I started writing and rapping when I was 10. I entered a battle when I was 17 and it was just a hobby. Then I released Skateboard Soiree that had a song on the radio called “So Good” and people started coming out to shows,” he said.
Now, he has recorded with Bam Bam and Illy, and hip hop superstar 360 has sung his praise, but the ambitious Blackwood boy is setting his sights high.
“I said two years ago when I started taking it seriously that I wanted to get into 360’s position. It’s a bit different to what he’s doing but I want to be that next guy. I want to play arenas. I don’t want to set a limit on how far my music will go,” he said.
The video for the recently released single, “Right Now” was filmed in Stirling and Glenelg and has had over 75000 views on Youtube.
But despite his seemingly overnight success, Allday is down to earth, appreciative of his fans, and enjoying the journey he is on.
Start Up Cult is set to do big things in the hip hop world and launch more home-grown talent into the international arena.
