Adelaide Welcomes First Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan Stockist – Brocante City Studio

Adelaide has welcomed its first Chalk Paint™ Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan stockist with the launch of Brocante In The Barossa’s City Studio in North Adelaide.

MON_5875Adelaide has welcomed its first Chalk Paint™ Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan stockist with the launch of Brocante In The Barossa’s City Studio in North Adelaide. More than just paint, the popular Annie Sloan decorative technique has a vast and dedicated following in South Australia and world-wide due to versatility, colour palette and ease of use.

Invited guests at the VIP launch of the new City Studio were treated to an artistic collaboration with talented local emerging artist Lucy Brewin, working live with Chalk PaintTM to create a one-off piece of art on timber.

Artist, design consultant and Brocante owner Kim Valois said “We are so delighted to be collaborating with Lucy Brewin to celebrate our new store, and the art of the possible, with Chalk PaintTM.

“It is such a natural fit. Lucy Brewin’s creativity with watercolours, use of beautiful soft hues, artistic heritage and Parisian influences all speak volumes about the Brocante City Studio story. What a fabulous way to celebrate and share our journey with tonight’s guests”, Kim Valois said.

Brocante in the Barossa was established in Angaston in 2013 as a stockist of Chalk PaintTM. The business quickly built a loyal following in the Barossa district, in Adelaide, surrounds and beyond.

Brocante City Studio opened to trading on 14 May on Melbourne Street, North Adelaide. Like her Barossa based sibling, the Brocante City Studio stocks the full range of Annie Sloan products (including brushes, waxes, and a new release stencil range), conducts techniques workshops, and offers personalised colour and interior style consultations to customers.

Owner Kim Valois, along with husband and business partner Ian Mathieson, always intended to open a Brocante City Studio but they are thrilled to have been able to do it in less than two years.

Kim Valois said “From Murray Street Angaston to Melbourne Street North Adelaide, South Australians are falling in love with Chalk PaintTM.”

“Upcycling is still so much on trend – although it has evolved. Today it is more about interpreting a piece of furniture your own way rather than following any particular rules.”

“From a shabby-chic influences in a country house to pops of colour in a city apartment, Annie Sloan decorative techniques (not to mention the contemporary colour palette of Chalk PaintTM) have helped take upcycling to a whole new level.”

For the VIP Launch Event, guests were treated to a unique artistic collaboration with local emerging visual artist Lucy Brewin, who worked with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Lucy’s own soldering techniques to create live for guests a stunning artwork of a Parisian shop front on timber. The artwork will remain on display at Brocante City Studio following the event along with a small selection of Lucy’s recent works.

Invited guests enjoyed tastes from the Barossa in the company of an artist at work. This included wines from Lyndoch-based Dutschke, and cheese from the award winning Barossa Valley Cheese Company. A selection of macarons from The Mac Factory provided a sweet finish. Beautiful arrangements from Barossa’s leading floral design studio Viva The Flower Store added an air of celebration to the space.

Artist Lucy Brewin said that for an emerging artist the opportunity to collaborate with Brocante City Studio and a global creative brand has been a personal career highlight.

Lucy Brewin said “European and Parisian water colour scenes dominate many of my recent works so to be given the opportunity to get creative with the Chalk PaintTM by Annie Sloan range, and work so closely with Brocante City Studio, has been pretty exciting.

“I loved the colours and the texture; it’s such beautiful and creative paint to work with.”
