When embarking on the journey to understand and use twitter to its utmost potential, one cannot overlook the power of hash tags.
While tweets are limited to 140 characters, forcing us to become more succinct communicators, the easiest way to get your message across to a broad audience, is by targeting your message.
Using key words and hash tags in your tweet, allow people who are interested in common themes and subjects to find your conversation easily.
For example, by using #Adelaide in your tweet, you can expand your audience from the number of people following you, to the thousands of people looking for information on what’s happening in our great city.
To help get you started, here are some common hash tags used in South Australia and Adelaide. To view conversations using these hash tags, either go to http://www.twitter.com and search for the hash tag term, or use a twitter client such as TweetDeck and create a search column using the hash tag term.
