Multi-award winning Glenunga International High School student Henry Thong is up for yet another film-making prize in what has already began an impressive industry career.

HenryThongA multi-award winning teenager from Adelaide is up for yet another film making prize in what has already began an impressive industry career.

Last month, Glenunga International High School student Henry Thong was awarded the top prize at the prestigious ATOM Awards in Melbourne in the ‘Best Senior Secondary Documentary’ category for his film Urban Exploration, pre-empting his hopes for another win before the end of the year.

After winning the ‘Best Silent Movie’ award at the Rockland Youth Film Festival in New York on 1 November, and the International Youth Silent Film Festival’s Grand International Prize in Portland, Oregon in June for The Girl in the Camera, his new silent short LEAP has just been shortlisted for the BUFTA Awards.

The BUFTA Awards are arguably the most prestigious among Australian youth film competitions and have been in place for the past 19 years at Bond University on the Gold Coast, with the top prize being a $90,000 full scholarship to the BU Film & Television School.

Voting is still open till Friday 21 November 2014, so here’s your chance to support Henry and SA! Click here if you would like to vote for LEAP.

Both LEAP and Urban Exploration have been nominated for awards in the Comedy and Documentary categories at BUFTA and are the only 2 entries from South Australia to make the Top 18 shortlist.

LEAP was also selected as a finalist in the Australian round of the International Youth Silent Film Festival, which was held in Adelaide earlier this year, marking Henry’s second successive visit to the highest level.

Henry has just finished his final exams at Glenunga International High School, winning Dux of School for Year 12, but isn’t taking time to draw breath. Currently working on new projects, he is planning to head back to the USA in 2015 to further his studies before attending the Victorian College of the Arts (part of the University of Melbourne) in 2016.

UPDATE: Henry Thong has won both the Best Documentary and the People’s Choice Awards at the BUFTAs. Read our update here!
