Over the next few weeks the University of Adelaide will be holding three lectures that the public are invited to join discussing migrant history, refugee experiences, gender inequality, motherhood and babies.

Below are the details to each event, including how to secure your spot.

Migrant hostels, reception centres and camps in South Australia (1949 and the mid-1990s)
This public forum will be facilitated by lead investigator of the Australian Research Council Linkage Hostel Stories project and interdisciplinary historian from the University of Adelaide, Professor Rachel Ankeny. Leading researchers in migrant history and refugee experiences, along with former hostel residents, will come together to deliver an open and provocative public discussion forum at the University of Adelaide.

2014 Harcourt Lecture by Professor Lise Vesterlund
Gender inequality in the labour force will be the theme of the University of Adelaide’s 2014 Harcourt Lecture, presented by Mellon Professor of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh Lise Vesterlund.

Entitled, Sustaining the Glass Ceiling through Gender Differences in Belief and Behaviour, Professor Vesterlund’s public lecture will uncover why men are more successful than women at climbing the corporate ladder.

Lloyd Cox Memorial Lecture by Professor Jane Harding
Distinguished paediatric researcher from the University of Auckland Professor Jane Harding will deliver the inaugural Lloyd Cox Memorial Lecture, presented by the University of Adelaide’s Robinson Research Institute.

Professor Harding will reflect on over 50 years of medical research in her free public lecture, Health for now or for Life? Dilemmas and trade-offs in caring for mothers and babies.
