RaaA move by the State Government to update South Australia’s road laws to allow for self-driving cars on Adelaide’s streets has been welcomed by RAA.

RAA General Manager Public Affairs, Penny Gale said that by 2020 all cars that come off the production line will have some ability to drive themselves, and we need to prepare.

“We would like to see trials happening on South Australian roads in the next five years – if London can do it, why can’t Adelaide?

“There are a number of vehicle manufacturers designing, making and testing self-driving cars. And many cars already have some elements that allow them to park or drive themselves, said Ms Gale.

“Who knows, one day not too far from now, common problems like finding a car park or dealing with peak-hour congestion could become a thing of the past, and Adelaide will have led the way by embracing this new technology now”.
