Adelaide Mum Wins Big At Telstra Business Women’s Awards

An Adelaide mum has taken her legal firm start up to new heights with an amazing win at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards. Talk about ‘girl power’…

When we hear of an Adelaidean doing great things, we feel it is our duty to let you know! Last night, Adelaide’s very own Sarah Bartholomeusz saw her new start up You Legal win the award for Best Start Up in the South Australian category of the 2015 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.

The fast-moving national law firm stood out above competition with its innovative online platform model, lean structure, virtual staff and its modern, fun and approachable marketing methods which include videos delivered weekly via social media and internet memes poking fun at the legal profession’s stuffy image.

The company delivers top-tier corporate and commercial legal services and corporate governance support to ASX-listed companies as well as growing businesses at all stages of their life cycle. You Legal has seen rapid growth of 400% and went from one foundation client to over 100 clients all in its first financial year.

With fourteen professional, experienced lawyers who work as online legal counsel or as in-house counsel on retainer, their lean structure means they have low overheads and can charge 20 per cent less than traditional top tier law firms.

The CEO’s involvement in the Entrepreneur’s Organisation’s EO Accelerator Program means that the company is working towards a $1million turnover this financial year.

CEO Sarah Bartholomeusz says You Legal is a new category of corporate and commercial law firm that has reinvented the way people engage legal services and the way people work for law firms.

“When I set up the company I wanted to create a firm which allowed lawyers to work and live a life they love, with freedom to work as much or as little as they need.

“As a mum of two the traditional law firm model does not work for me, and many other women, and I’m determined to change the status quo for women who love the profession but hate the inflexibility of the ‘old world’ model,” says Bartholomeusz.

Bartholomeusz started You Legal two years ago after her role was made redundant when she was 32 weeks pregnant from her job working as an in-house lawyer. She has over a decade of experience and is committed to ensuring businesses have access to legal advice that minimises their risks and maximises their potential.

Bartholomeusz is also about to launch her first book entitled ‘How to Avoid a Fall from Grace’, which will be sold for $29.99 on Amazon and www.legallessons.com.au from 9 November 2015.
