Local, historian and battlefield guide, Mat McLachlan, has escorted thousands of Aussies to Gallipoli for centenary of Anzac Day.
With only days remaining until the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, thousands of Australians are visiting the Gallipoli battlefields to pay respects to the Anzacs ahead of the centenary of Anzac Day. Adelaide locale, Mat McLachlan, and founder of Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours (MMBT) is guiding many of these battlefield pilgrims.
Commencing from Istanbul, MMBT’s leading group of historians are escorting coachloads of Australians to the key sites where the Anzac legend was born – including Anzac Cove, North Beach, Lone Pine, Helles and Suvla, and Ancient Troy. On Anzac Day, travellers who received ballot tickets to the official Dawn Ceremony at Anzac Cove will receive transfers to this service, while the large number of Australians who missed out will attend the special Dawn Service that has been coordinated by MMBT, and which will include a live performance by iconic singer Eric Bogle (also an Adelaide local) of “And the band played Waltzing Matilda”.
