We brought you the story of the plans for the Adelaide Casino upgrade when it broke in November (read it here), and now it has been announced that the plans have been approved… Adelaide, get set for a world-class Casino and complex that will blow your mind!

SKYCITY Entertainment Group’s plans for a major expansion of its Adelaide Casino have been approved by South Australia’s Development Assessment Commission (DAC).

South Australia’s development approval authority today gave the green light to the proposed design, which includes an 80-room luxury hotel, premium gaming spaces and additional signature restaurants.

The plan involves spending up to $A300 million to transform the Adelaide Casino into a world-class integrated entertainment destination on the Riverbank Precinct, adjacent to the Torrens River.

Chief Executive Nigel Morrison says SKYCITY is pleased that plans for the major redevelopment, which will create much-needed jobs and economic growth for South Australia, have been given the go-ahead.

“SKYCITY is committed to developing a world-class, integrated entertainment destination in Adelaide, attracting both international and domestic visitors. This new offering will help South Australia attract a bigger share of high-value international visitors,” says Mr Morrison.

“The SKYCITY Adelaide expansion will be a positive addition to the Festival Plaza re-development project that will bring both short-term and long-term employment to many South Australians across several industries.

“SKYCITY has worked in close collaboration with the planning authorities to secure our vision for this development, ensuring we took on board concerns that were relayed to us about the heritage-listed railway station, which will remain intact under the approved plans,” says Mr Morrison.

Construction is set to start mid-year. Precise timings remain dependent on the finalisation of the site lease with the South Australia Government and coordination with the Government’s plans and those of other developers being approved for the broader development of the Riverbank Precinct.
