Well, wasn’t the start of Spring just a big tease! Adelaide has absolutely copped it today and people need to remain vigilant tonight to stay safe.
Already flash flooding across the Adelaide Hills has occurred with Aldgate, Hahndorf and Bridgewater the worst hit as the Onkaparinga River runs riot. Brown Hill Creek also burst its banks with the Aldgate pub flooded. They’re still serving beer though we’re told…

Over 50mm of rain fell in the 24 hours to midday, and another 20-40mm is expected before things are done. BOM has reported wind gusts of between 90km/h and 100km/h across Adelaide regions, including the CBD. We’ve also seen motorcycles with rain covers blown over on the city streets, so perhaps it’s good day to remove the tarp if you’d like your bike to stay standing.
There have apparently also been over 7000 reports made today alone of power outages, especially in the Northeast Suburbs.
So, what should we do? Motorists are advised to avoid flooded areas (as listed above and by the SES) and be especially vigilant as the evening sets in. If you feel like you’re at risk of losing control while on the road, or water is covering the road, slow right down or just pull over altogether to assess the situation.
Residents in coastal areas also look set for a long evening, so be sure to baton down the hatches.
