Adelaide Central Market Gears Up For Its Biggest Easter Yet!

When you see the number of hot cross buns expected to be sold, your mind may be blown…

The Adelaide Central Market is preparing for a bumper Easter trading period, which is hoped to be one of the best in its 147 year history.

More than 500,000 shoppers are expected to visit the Market during March, with more than 250,000 anticipated to walk through the Market’s doors in the final week of Easter trade.

Adelaide Central Market Authority General Manager Aaron Brumby said Easter created an exciting atmosphere at the Market as thousands of people flock to source the freshest, locally grown produce for their Easter tables.

“Easter is our second biggest trading period for the year and we’re expecting our local suppliers will deliver 300,000 kilograms of fruit and veg and fresh produce to the Market over the period,” Mr Brumby said.

The Market recently introduced a new parking scheme, which gives visitors the first hour of parking free during Market trading hours (Tuesday to Saturday).

“The new initiative, along with extended trading hours will give shoppers even greater accessibility to shop for speciality items in the lead up to Easter.”

The Adelaide Central Market’s abundance of speciality Easter goods this year includes house made spelt hot cross buns from Wild Loaf, sourdough hot cross buns from Dough, hand decorated sugar eggs and marshmallow bunnies from the Old Lolly Shop, Adelaide Nut’s giant Easter bunnies and hand painted chocolate hazelnut praline eggs from Providore.

Seafood is synonymous with Easter in South Australia and Spencer Gulf Prawns from Samtass Seafood are in abundance.

Market shoppers can also explore the Market with an Easter Egg Hunt from March 17 to 24. The fun, free event will allow children and big children to search for the five hidden golden Easter eggs throughout the Market. Find an egg and you will go in the draw to win $500 in Market Lovers cash.

The Market will be open for extended trading hours in the lead up to Easter from:

7am until 5.30pm on Tuesday 22 March
7am until 5.30pm on Wednesday 23 March
