Adding Australian Style to Your Home

Adelaide recycled design guru Helen Edwards takes a look at adding a touch of Australian style to your home as part of her regular column.

Eureka Antiques and Gallery is a family owned business filled with passion and love for their trade.
For over 30 years they have provided personalised services from their location in the interior
decorating and second hand mecca of Magill Road, Norwood.

Specialising in Australian Furniture from the 1850s-2000s, along with European furniture, the
owner Peter Young is a skilled and passionate furniture restorer. His arts training at the South
Australian School of Art, coupled with his skill in furniture restoration and design, come together to
create beautiful and artistic finishes to all of his pieces. All in all, the team of trained artisans at the
store, have over 100 years combined skill and experience in antique furniture restoration, furniture
design and production.

They offer something very special and very important when it comes to decorating your home – a
commitment to quality workmanship, incorporating the best of traditional methods and modern
techniques. This results in stunning sustainable and unique furniture to decorate your home with,
with pieces that will become family heirlooms, and definitely create a talking piece in your home.
The most sustainable option when it comes to decorating your home, is to choose pieces that
already exist, and antique furniture is not necessarily what you imagine. There are a range of styles,
finishes, materials and colours, and with a special love for Australian depression era furniture, a
touch of the country can be brought into the mix through the pieces on offer at this local gem.

Peter and his team also offer a furniture design and custom build, bespoke furniture service, which
gives you the option to create your own unique and special piece. Have a chat with Peter about what
you would like to achieve, and he will gladly guide you towards a finished result you will be delighted
with.

When it comes to the gallery side of things, Peter and his partner Visarjan are very close friends with
Australian Artist, David Bromley, and his artworks feature throughout their shop for you to
purchase. You will find a mix of classic and custom made pieces with a good range of timber
furniture, lovingly restored. The pieces are beautifully styled and displayed, and a visit to the shop
takes you on a journey back in time. This is a truly beautiful small shop experience, from the
moment you open the unobtrusive door and hear the bell jingle. The couple say they are expanding
and upgrading their back area, which is where I found a gorgeous depression era turquoise dresser
which came home with me! Highly recommended for a visit. You can find them at 152 Magill Road
Norwood.
