Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Cultural Fashion To Shine Tonight

NURLANTHI (pronounced Nur-lan-di) aims to intensify the relationship between art and fashion in an extraordinary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural fashion performance.

NURLANTHI (pronounced Nur-lan-di) aims to intensify the relationship between art and fashion in an extraordinary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural fashion performance.

Based on the Kaurna word loosely translating to mean ‘the twisting of fibres,’ NURLANTHI will weave its magic drawing on talent from across Australia. The alchemists behind this production are a team of creative, passionate individuals led by Grace Lillian Lee (Curator), Deon Hastie (Choreographer), Chantal Henley (Set Designer) and Deni Jones of Culdesac creative (Producer). Gracing the stage in wearable art, local Indigenous models will be joined by spellbinding Aboriginal dancers captivating the audience in a riveting performance.

Among the colour explosive line up, designers include Elisa Jane Carmichael from Moreton and Stradbroke Island, MiArt Designs from Mornington Island and Bana Yirriji Art Centre – Wujal Wujal from Queensland. Hailing from South Australia, beautiful batiks created by senior Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara artists will be presented, as will the works of the Ngarrindjerri weavers from Camp Coorong. Spectacular woven creations from Grace Lillian Lee and Chantal Henley will also be on show with a total of nine collections.

Adding to the finely tuned layers is the musical brilliance of Electric Fields, whose song “Shade Away” is the hero soundtrack for “Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide”. Electric Fields will be performing live for NURLANTHI. Taking the audience on a magical journey that reveals contemporary Australian
Indigenous Culture through textiles, models, adornment and song, NURLANTHI promises an experience to ignite your senses that will leave you breathless.
